Our Approach
![]() ProjectEDGE and Edgewater utilize a self-directed
"partnering" team structure in which team members are expected to provide
their own direction within the parameters established by the function,
budget, and cycle time required by the customer's business case. Such
a team structure provides the mechanism for using Total Quality Management,
Partnering, Value Engineering and Convergent Engineering to the best possible
advantage.
A Self-Directed Team encourages and develops communication
skills to expand knowledge of the issues and the operating environment
in which the solutions must work. By drawing from their expanded knowledge,
the Team converges quickly on the most appropriate solution by discussing
and testing their solutions. The technique overcomes the risk of building
a facility that does not meet the objectives of the customer. By discussing
the design concepts before committing them to paper, the Team can efficiently
modify them to fit the actual operating need. Self-Directed Teams develop
a genuine interest in the project because of the opportunity to shape
the result. Their consensus decision-making leads to a final product that
represents their interests while accomplishing the customer's mission
for that facility. "What can be better than taking pride from having helped
develop the right solution and doing so within the project's constraints?"
ProjectEDGE manages the development process from the
inception of a project and the creation of the Business Case, establishing
the need, through the management of design and construction into occupancy.
Business Case
ProjectEDGE should be used to support clients in their development of
a Business Case to justify the project and establishes its needs.
Design Management
ProjectEDGE's Design Management Competency lies in providing tools
to assist the project designers in developing value-added designs. A
key ingredient in delivering these results is treating a client's dollars
as though they were our own. ProjectEDGE encourages continually testing
design decisions through asking 'Would I spend my own money in this
manner', value-added design can be accomplished. Other questions asked
include:
Preconstruction Planning
ProjectEDGE assists in managing preconstruction planning in a strategic
planning approach to the use of the owner's budget, time frame, and
resources, to arrive at a value-added means of implementing the project
design while achieving the goals of the Business Case. Such strategic
planning accepts the requirements of the Business Case as a standard
that must be achieved and develops a plan to accomplish that while
minimizing risk as much as possible. Construction Management ProjectEDGE
helps Construction Management by guiding the selected contractor resources
in their quest of building the needed facility. The principal core
competency in this area lies in driving the construction process,
rather than merely monitoring its results.
